My Poems

Arrows (2015)

“The tongue has no bones, but is strong enough to break a heart.” Anonymous

It’s in my belly,
Rising quietly
Rumbling tightly
Clenching closely,
The fear, the doubt.

And so I’m heading
Down the rabbit hole
As painful slander
Shatters my fragile shell.

What was once
Is seemingly no more
As the phoenix fails to rise from its ashes.

My breath,
A missing anchor,
Shallow, disjointed, unreliable.

And all because of a few small words
Piercing in their palpable disdain
Pain was indeed their aim
Merciless arrows
They are to blame
For this hurtful game
And heavy chains.
