My Poems

Flower in the Wind (2018)

“When you don’t know yourself, who you are and what you want, you just become a product of your environment – a leaf that gets blown each and every way until it just lands, in a big pile of mud, and gets stuck.” Evan Sutter

Flower in the wind
I be
When painfully
I seek to please
Please all but me.

Proud tree
That’s what I want to be
Standing firm, standing tall,
No more crouching
In a small tight ball.

A voice inside
Calls;
You heed, I hide.

Proud tree
That’s what I want to be,
Roots planted deep and planted wide,
So peace I may reap, so peace can reside.

Proud tree
That’s what I want to be
Not taken by the tide
On any kind of ride.

No longer do I abide
To stay on the side,
To others pinned
Like a flower in the wind.
